AttenHUT-Alfred Angelo On Tour: A Military Wedding

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a military bride? Well, I got to see it first hand this past weekend. I attended the most wonderful multi-couple military wedding in Columbus, GA, outside the Ft. Benning Army base.

Alfred Angelo has been donating wedding gowns to the non-profit group, Operation Homefront since 2008. Operation Homefront’s Georgia chapter received 200 of the 300+ gowns recently donated and outfitted 20 brides for a very special group wedding this past Saturday, June 13.

Each bride got to choose her Alfred Angelo gown, according to her personal style. Some of the styles chosen were among our most popular: 1516, 1612, 2024, and 1142!

Highlights from the Day…
The ceremony took place at the beautiful and bucolic Columbus Botanical Garden.

The brides and grooms all stood together on the lawn and renewed their commitment to each other in front of 250 friends and family on a perfectly sunny Georgia day, presided over by the base Brigade Chaplin.

At the end of the ceremony, each couple proceeded through the traditional Saber Arch, where the bride is given a gentle tap with one of the sabers, and was once again told “Welcome to the Army”.

At the reception, commanding Brigadier General Donoghue and second in command General Jones, who oversee the Ft. Benning and Ft. Stewart bases in Georgia, congratulated the brides and grooms. I had the pleasure of meeting them myself as well!

At the end of the day, the couples headed to the 1870 Rothschild-Pound House Inn. They all spent the evening at the Inn’s historical cottages, run by Mamie Pound (who by the way, makes the world’s most amazing pancakes).

So, congratulations to all of the couples from this weekend's wedding! It was wonderful to attend.

And, if you are a soon-to-be military bride, I salute you!

Go Luxe and Go Green-Eco-Chic for your Wedding

To Celebrate Earth Day, I thought it’d be a great time to explore all of the wonderful options for green weddings that I’ve been seeing on the web!

One thing I have learned this week is that green has come a long way….So many gorgeous ways to do the right thing.

Here are some of my favorites:
Make-Up
Sephora carries a beautiful collection by CARGO called Plantlove. It’s a brand that carries an ECOCERT natural designation for its commitment to the environment. From it’s natural and organic ingredients to its compostable packaging.

Décor/Favors/Wine-Spirits
BridalGuide.com has a great newsletter for Eco-friendly wedding products, including:
-Soy Candles, make a great eco-concious favor.
-Organic fair-trade chocolate bonbons are a delicious way to support socially focused businesses.
-Organic Wines from Spain – Everyone enjoys a nice glass of wine especially ones that are grown with your health in mind!

Gown
If you’re a green-minded girl, silk is a wonderful fabric to consider for your gown. Not only is it a renewable material, it looks and feels luxurious. Best of both worlds! Alfred Angelo’s Piccione collection offers brides a range of gorgeous bridal gown styles, all in silk. One of my favorites, style 410 will make any bride feel like a muse!

Venue
If you’re having a wedding of more than 100 people, consider having the wedding and reception at the same location. Not only will you save by combining both, but your 100+ guest will all lessen their carbon footprint as they walk from the ceremony to the reception! Outdoors or indoors, there are amazing choices available in your city. TheKnot.com and Brides.com are spot on resources.

So, go green, feel good, and look beautiful!

Visions of White

For two reasons, I have visions of white in my head today…snow and sand.

As the last of the snowdrifts melt away, I’m staring at my screen-saver from my friend’s wedding in Belize… Oh to be back on those beautiful white sandy beaches! We stayed at the El Pescador resort, which held the outdoor ceremony at sunset. Both the resort and Belize were picturesque.

So I did a little research…

Destination weddings now make up 18% of weddings each year, and are on a steady rise.
--According to Destination Weddings and Honeymoons magazine’s Managing Editor Tara Bradley,

“In these days of scattered families and long distance friendships, a wedding away gives a couple and their loved ones that most precious of commodities: time together…while being given leisure time to relax and enjoy the new destination together.”
--Editor-In-Chief of Destination Weddings and Honeymoons magazine, Susan Moynihan,

You can even save a little cash with a Destination wedding!

Check out these 8 great tips on why to chose a Destination wedding from MoneySmartLife.com

Mardi Gras and Weddings!

I’m happy to have our first blog post the week of Mardi Gras.

It’s such a festive and expressive holiday – I love that it is filled with tons of color, allure and fun!

I always think weddings should be a big celebration and what is a bigger celebration than Mardi Gras.

You could use masks or a king cake, but I think the coolest way to create a little Mardi Gras inspiration would be to use the colors of the holiday.

Did you know the colors you see at Mardi Gras, purple, green and gold, all have symbolic meanings?

The official colors of Mardi Gras were chosen by Rex, King of Carnival, in 1892.

• Purple represents justice
• Green represents faith
• Gold represents power.

Every color evokes a special emotion inside us and that’s why color can be a great way to personalize your wedding no matter what you choose.
